Cornelius C. Beekman papers, 1851-1919.

Cornelius C. Beekman (1828-1915) was a gold freighter, Wells Fargo agent for 42 years, and banker. Beekman founded the second bank in the Pacific Northwest, Beekman Bank in Jacksonville, Oregon. This collection includes banking and insurance records, correspondence, diaries, estate papers, financial records, and land transaction records of Cornelius Compton Beekman. Also included are records kept by Beekman of persons holding Modoc Indian War scrip and bonds, mostly in Jackson County. Separated material includes two oversize containers of Beekman's appointment as regent, University of Oregon, for a term of 12 years, February 16, 1893; his appointment to the Committee of Citizens for the Mexican Exposition of 1896; and his appointment as delegate to the St. Louis National Convention, October 20, 1869.
